Wood is an excellent material on which to prepare food and is acknowledged as a healthy alternative to modern plastic/nylon style boards. woodspark boards are made to the highest standards of workmanship allowing for not only a safe and practical surface for food preparation but giving a delightful appearance that will enhance any kitchen.

 Our End Grain Chopping Boards

woodspark hand crafted end grain chopping boards meet every criterion that describes the best of the best in food boards. End grain is simply standing the wood fibres in an end on orientation on the food board so that your best and sharpest knives do not have to cut across the grain of the wood preserving the keenest edge of your knife retaining sharpness longer.

End Grain Chopping Boards

'woodspark' uses mostly exotic woods, American Dark Walnut and American Cherry wood, being the most preferred for end grain chopping boards.

Wood provides a durable, healthy and ideal surface for the heaviest of food preparation. The end grain ensures that your favourite and sharpest knives retain their edge longer.

Treatment and care is important to maintain your food board in a clean and healthy state. Care information along with a complimentary pack of 'woodspark conditioning butter' is provided with every end grain chopping board.

  • Standard grade are chopping boards that have minor blemishes or wood grain marks.

  • Premier grade are chopping boards that don't have any minor blemish or wood grain marks.

I had the pleasure of dealing with Lionel who made me an end grain board for a Christmas gift. He was extremely helpful in the process of deciding which grain of wood to pick, to picking out a board once it was completed, even how to take care of your board once in use. Lionel has a fountain of knowledge and knows his craft so so well. These boards make amazing gifts even down to the bespoke packaging once your board is finished is outstanding and you can see the time and effort he puts in to make them truly unique. They are one of a kind boards and his craftsmanship is top notch! Would recommend to ALL.

I really couldn't be happier – it puts a huge smile on my face every time I pass through the kitchen

I just wanted to let you know that the board came packaged beautifully, and is so amazing to see in person. The biggest issue was that it simply looked too beautiful to cut on! But I'm happy to say that after conditioning it overnight as you suggested, I used it to prep dinner tonight and it still looks completely untouched. Thank you for including the wood conditioner, I'll be sure to treat it with love. I'm so, so pleased with the purchase.

I’ve just opened up the package and the dark food board is absolutely ‘WOW’ - I’m definitely keeping that board for myself.

woodspark Conditioning Oil and Butter

All woodspark food boards have been saturated in pure mineral oil and has received a liberal coating of conditioning oil, which is made up of beeswax and mineral oil. The oil is NZ Certified MAF C15 Oil.

To care for your woodspark food board - before using for the first time treat both sides of the board with a coating of conditioning oil or butter, leave overnight and then wipe off any excess with a clean soft rag or paper towel. Your board is safe to use immediately.

Repeat this conditioning process once a week for the first month then once a month for the first year and as required to keep the board fresh.

Do not place in the dishwasher or submerge in water. Instead, wipe down with a dish cloth and leave standing on edge to dry.
